Apple plans to begin developing its own graphics architecture for the new iPhone and iPad. This is evidenced by the company's refusal to cooperate with Imagination Technologies – it's the last few years that it supplied the Apple GPU for mobile devices.
In Cupertino, Imagination Technologies technologies were actively used, in particular its Power VR division. Now the corporation is supposedly going to work on its own graphic architecture, so as not to depend on third-party organizations. Against the backdrop of these news, Imagination Technologies shares fell by almost 70% in just a few hours.
At the same time, the company itself is wary of Apple's refusal to cooperate. In their opinion, Apple will be very difficult to work on its own graphics technology, without affecting any of the patents Imagination Technologies. Is it really true – most likely, we will find out very soon.
Apple has become one of the main holders of IT shares and investors since 2009. Since that time, she paid the company tens of millions of dollars as royalty. Now that Cupertino has decided to create its own architecture, they will not have to make deductions: unless they violate the law of intellectual property.
