Imagination Technologies, responsible for the release of graphics chips in the iPhone, introduced a new graphics processor using the PowerVR Furian architecture. The new chip is not only faster and more powerful, but also supports graphics in 4K resolution.
PowerVR Furian provides a performance boost (in games – almost twice), while significantly reducing the load on the battery, which makes it possible to make a mobile device more powerful without the risk of time for its autonomous work. In theory, the chip can appear in the new iPhone, because Apple, as a rule, always uses the latest developments of its suppliers.
But this is unlikely to happen in 2017. The first such graphics processor, Series8XT, will be available only in the middle of this year, and Apple may simply not have time to use it until its fall presentation. It is not excluded, of course, that the company has an exclusive contract with Imagination Technologies, and it will receive chips much earlier.
Apple is the holder of Imagination Technologies shares and provides the company with all necessary support. Last year, there were rumors that Apple could completely absorb it, but so far they have not come true. Instead, they lured a number of employees into their own unit in Cupertino.
