A couple of days ago, one of the users of Reddit decided to include their iPad, which, according to him, had been lying in the nightstand for several years, but faced an unexpected obstacle – an inscription appeared on the screen that the tablet was turned off and it would not be possible to activate it again in 47 years .
In minutes, this value is 24,735,744, which the iPad told its owner. If you throw aside the joke that the tablet is "offended" because it has spent a long time gathering dust, the problem is most likely related to the UNIX time – the device dropped the date on January 1, 1970, when the report of the so-called "computer time" .
A similar error occurs when the battery is discharged below the minimum level, because to maintain the time and date you need power, and if the device is for a long time off, the battery is completely disposed of. In comments to the record on Reddit, users advised either to connect the tablet to an authorized computer, or to reflash the iPad using DFU.
In early 2016, Reddit users discovered a critical vulnerability, which led to the fact that the devices based on iOS 8 and iOS 9 simply ceased to be included. It was enough to go into the settings for the date and time, turn off the automatic time zone definition and select the next date: January 1, 1970. Soon, Apple released an operating system update with bug fixes.
